Our experience is that American Apparel fits true to size. However, their products feature several fits (standard, semi-fitted, relaxed) that lay on the body differently.

Generally, American Apparel tops do not shrink. Poly-cotton blends and tri-blends do not shrink, while all 100% cotton shirts are preshrunk. So, shrinkage should not be a problem.
